About the work

This choreographic work, which is based on CMM (Cardinal Movement Method), was developed through a year and a half of research throughout the pandemic. During this time, two humans found themselves locked in a studio, in an old carriage house, in the heart of Manhattan. It was then and there- through the extension of the variations of song and dance- that The Song of Spies was born. Songs of the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries are the metronome for the dance. The dance inhabits space in an exploration of leaning, pushing, jumping, passing, and moving space and into space. The song and dance provide a birth place for the work, for, The Song of Spies. Movement patterns and specific coordinations were developed by and for the work, for these two beings, Assaf and Nikki, to walk together, all the while keeping the steps of the song. This work is our song.

Assaf and Nikki are available for CMM workshops and teaching, choreographic commissions, and presentations of The Song of Spies. For more, Contact Us.
